Pavel Feinstein

Pavel Feinstein's old-masterly still lifes are a eulogy to the beauty of the everyday. The objects in his atmospheric paintings seem so fresh and vivid that one almost feels like picking them from the canvas.

Vita

Pavel Feinstein paints the objects of his pictorial world in traditional techniques such as oil, gouache and egg tempera. His compositions are influenced by Cézanne and Russian Realism. Thus, irritating details are added to the familiar arrangements of vegetables and fruit, bringing this centuries-old pictorial genre into the present in a new way.

Pavel Feinstein, dubbed the "new old master" by DIE ZEIT, was born in Moscow in 1960 and studied at the art school in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, and at the Berlin Hochschule der Künste. His work has been shown in numerous exhibitions, including solo shows at the Jewish Museum Berlin and the Osthaus Museum Hagen. This year his works will be shown at the Modersohn Museum in Worpswede.
